Until now, Medicare wouldn’t pay for GLP-1 medications when they were prescribed for weight loss, so many people paid the full price themselves or went without. The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge changes that. The program is live now, and members who qualify can get a covered GLP-1 for a $50 — with Achieve taking care of the approval from start to finish.
Do You Qualify?
There are three ways to qualify, and matching just one is enough. Eligibility is based on your BMI when you first started a GLP-1, not where you are today. You’ll also need Medicare Part D drug coverage, be 18 or older, and be following a nutrition and activity plan. And if you already have type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, a liver condition (MASH) or established heart disease, your regular Part D plan may already cover a GLP-1 — often a simpler route. A BMI of 35 or Above
On its own, that’s enough to qualify.
A BMI of 30 or Above
Plus heart failure, uncontrolled high blood pressure (Greater than 140 over 90), or chronic kidney disease (GFR less than 60)
A BMI of 27 or Above
Plus Prediabetes (fasting blood glucose of 100 to 125 mg/dL, an A1C level of 5.7% to 6.4%), a prior heart attack or stroke, or peripheral artery disease.
